If you were asking any Italian where best food in Italy is, answer will easily and promptly be Bologna! Truth is, there is undoubtedly something magical about this city, capital of Emilia-Romagna region, having been crowned Capital of Food by Forbes in 2013. There is something special in here. We love food. We breath food. And if this is not enough, just remember what my nonna always says: food and tradition are mandatory all throughout Italy, but here they are way, way more: they are religion.
Now is your chance to be discovering the real thing, and try all of the terrific foodstuffs the area is popular for: from dangerously tasty Parmigiano Reggiano cheese to black, delicate, true Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, I will show you all of the best we have to offer!
Half Day Food Tour is 3 hours long.
By means of a private car with driver we will be picked up in Bologna city centre and we shall reach a Parmigiano Reggiano dairy factory just outside town: this is where you will discover all of the secrets of the Italian cheese making, and you will be left speechless by ancient, wise handicraft abilities of cheese makers. Wandering aimlessly through alleys and alleys of cheese storage, you will eventually spoil your palate with different ageings of it!
Traditional balsamic vinegar is what identifies Modena best. For over two thousand years, wooden barrels featuring this most delicate, thick syrup have been preserved in the attics of palaces in town. Acetaias and balsamic production are still a most secretive family tradition, here, rarely spoken of. We will reach a stunning 1920s art dèco villa just outside Modena, where I will share all of the secrets of traditional Balsamic Vinegar making, and you will finally treat yourself with all of the different ageings of it.
