Montalcino, home of the famous ‘Brunello’ red wine, has a beautiful castle that dominates the magnificent Orcia valley. The highlights of the town are its unique wine cellars. They start at the top of the hill and go all the way through it. Furthermore, it is impossible not to stop at the suggestive Saint Antimo Abbey!
Pienza: In the 16th century, the famous architect Rossellino was commissioned by Pope Pius II to build the new ‘Perfect’ town. The Duomo (Cathedral), which dominates the centre of the Piazza, has one of the earliest Renaissance façades ever designed.
Montepulciano sits on a high limestone ridge and has a beautiful town hall in its main square, known as ‘Piazza Grande’, which is a smaller copy of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. One of the best red wines from Tuscany is produced here: the famous Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
